The Five Best Bark Collars For Labs

Published by William on

Bark collars are meant to, you guessed it. Keep your labrador from barking, some try to do this by spraying the labrador retriever with citronella or an emitting a sonic pulse. In my experience, these do not work as well on labs, and I believe are no more humane. Being sprayed in the face with citronella doesn’t sound humane to me. Maybe you have questions about the when or when not to use a bark collar, or if bark collars are even humane for labs have a look at this article. Also before using a bark collar on your lab, we strongly recommend deciphering why your lab is barking.

Without further ado the five best shock collars for Labrador retrievers and why.

1) Best All-Around: Sportdog No Bark Premium

We’ve found that Sport Dog Collars are very good quality made with sturdy materials. Basically, if you want it to last get a Sport Dog collar.

Pros

  • Completely Waterproof up to 10 feet under.
  • Smart Bark Detection (so it doesn’t shock your lab when another dog is barking)
  • Up to 10 levels of correction
  • Smart modes like Progressive Correction and Temperament Learning.
  • Sturdy Strap (we all know how labs like to chew)
  • 200 hrs (8+ days) of battery life.

Cons

  • Battery Life Could Be Longer

SportDogs collars are generally considered the best in the market. Basically, if you have a SportDog. See it here on amazon.

2) Best Budget: TBI Pro Q6

Honestly, this is a good collar, it might not have as many bells and whistles as some of the more expensive ones, but it does the job.

I got this collar for my lab Luna and it worked great. It even came with two collars so when she chewed one up there was a spare. On the downside you do have to recharge the battery often. It says 14 days but in reality it was more like 6-8 days. During those days it works great and I have no other complaints.

PROS

  • Smart Bark Detection (mostly, I’ve had false triggers before)
  • Waterproof (30mins at 1 meter)
  • Up to 14 Days of battery life (that’s what I’m talkin about)
  • 5 Levels of adjustable correction

CONS

  • Smart Detection doesn’t work that great
  • The battery doesn’t always last like it should.

If you’re on a budget, this is still a good collar and will save the neighbors from graffitiing your house, because your lab is barking all night. Have a look at it on amazon.

3) Best For Home Pets (BEST BATTERY): Garmin BarkLimiter Deluxe

The Garmin Bark Limiter Delux just works. It’s a great product from a reliable company. It’s well made and isn’t going to fall apart on you. What it does really well… battery. This is the best battery I’ve seen in a collar.

PROS

  • Smark Bart Detection
  • Waterproof (30 mins at 1 meter)
  • Auto adjust Sensitivity.
  • Correction Learning
  • 7 Levels of Adjustable Correction
  • Battery 3 months rechargeable ( 10 months non-rechargeable)

CONS

  • Not as waterproof as similar models
  • Not as many options
  • Contact Points don’t always get through fur

4) The Ultimate Features (but pricey): SportDog X Series

This is the ultimate collar, the best of the best. Even though these collars are for the sportsmen amongst us it still packs many great features for the everyday user. SportDog has really outdone itself. Check out the features on this baby.

5) Budget Runner Up: PetSafe Basic

This is a good collar from a good company. The thing I love personally about this collar is it uses the same batteries as my in ground fence collar.

Update: Others have had great experiences with this collar but my own personal experience wasn’t great, it didn’t seem to be doing anything even after testing it, changing the battery and troubleshooting it. I sent it back. Hopefully others have better luck than I did.

PROS

  • Smart Bark Detection
  • 6 Levels of Adjustable Correction
  • Waterproof (30 mins/1 meter)
  • Progressive Increasing Correction
  • up to 3-month battery (Non-rechargeable)

CONS

  • The battery is not rechargeable
  • Smart Detection doesn’t work great.
